The Fuel Lever
Diesel (Дизел) Only. The fuel cap is on the passenger side. To open it, pull the small lever located on the floor next to the driver’s seat.
24/7 Headlights
Bulgarian law requires headlights on at all times, day and night. We have preset these for you—please leave them on.

Overtaking
(High Risk)
EXTREME CAUTION: Because the steering wheel is on the right, you cannot see past the vehicle in front. Do not pull out to overtake unless your passenger confirms it is 100% clear.
Stop Signes
At “STOP” signs, you must come to a complete halt. Do not “roll” through. Count to three before pulling away; local police are very strict on this specific rule.

Hazards & Flashing Lights
If oncoming drivers flash their lights at you, there is likely a police speed trap ahead. If a car puts on their hazard lights, they are warning you of a sudden stop or a hazard (like a donkey cart!)

Potholes & Rural Hazards
Roads around rural Bulgaria can have deep potholes or slow-moving farm machinery. Keep your speed down and stay alert for sheep, goats, or horses crossing the road.
Alcohol & Documents
Always carry your license and the blue vehicle folder found in the glovebox. Note: Bulgaria has a zero-tolerance policy for drink-driving (limit 0.05%). Please do not risk it.
